There Will Never Be Another Like Him

Frank Church

Let us remember there was a time when politicians acted for the good of the people and our nation. The greatest, at least for me, was Idaho’s Frank Church. I was proud to know him and his lovely wife, Bethine. And through him I met Joe Biden

It breaks my heart to watch as our country turns from a Democratic Democracy to Republican Nationalism. And for no other reason than to enrich the few at the expense of the many.

Frank Forrester Church III (July 25, 1924 – April 7, 1984), Boise, Idaho served the nation through the Democratic Party from 1957 to 1981. He is known for heading the Church Committee, which investigated abuses within the United States Intelligence Community.

In the Senate, Church was a protégé of Lyndon B. Johnson, and in turn served as a protégé for Joe Biden. He established a reputation as a member of the party’s liberal wing. He was an essential figure in American foreign policy and chaired the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations from 1979 to 1981.

Bethine and Frank Church

Bethine Clark Church (February 19, 1923 – December 21, 2013) was no political lightweight. She was the daughter of Chase Clark, a former Democratic governor of Idaho and the federal judge for the state and the driving light behind her husband. Even after his death, Bethine continue to push the values that once made our nation the envy of the world.

Somewhere along the line, too many elected officials have lost sight of what it means to serve the public. It is shameful.
