Senator Brooks Moves to Increase Renewable Energy Use in Nevada

The Nellis Solar Power Plant is a 14-megawatt (MW) photovoltaic power station located within Nellis Air Force Base in Clark County, Nevada, northeast of Las Vegas.

On Monday, March 18, Nevada State Senator Chris Brooks (D-3) introduced SB 358 which, if passed, will increase the state’s renewable portfolio standard to 50% by 2030 and place Nevada as a leading producer and consumer of clean and renewable energy.

Electrical utilities that intend to acquire or construct renewable facilities must offer that resource at competitive market prices without reference to rate-of-return or cost-of-service principles.

More clean energy would also improve the quality of our air, decreasing the rates of asthma, heart disease, lung disease and even cancer – especially for children and seniors.

The public is encouraged to share their opinions on SB 358 with legislators in the coming weeks. We encourage you to submit an opinion in favor of SB 358 here: http://bit.ly/2ufxTlQ.
