Sen. Masto Announces $3 million Grant for Nevada Tribes

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) celebrated the awarding of $3 million in grant funding to help the Moapa Band of Paiutes and the Winnemucca Tribe construct affordable housing and community development projects. The awards will be distributed through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Indian Community Development Block Grant program.

“This funding will help construct new affordable housing options and a community gathering place for two of Nevada’s vibrant tribal communities. I’ll continue fighting to ensure that Native American families across Nevada have the support they need to thrive.”

BACKGROUND:

Under the Indian Community Development Block Grant the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides grants to Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages for community development projects. The ICDBG – Imminent Threat program will assist grant recipients with imminent activities to improve, repair or restore safe and healthy environments on Indian reservations, in Indian communities, and in Native Alaskan villages.

The grant funds will be awarded as follows:

  • The Moapa Indian Housing Authority will receive $1,500,000 to construct 8 manufactured homes.
  • The Winnemucca Tribe will receive $1,500,000 to construct a multi-purpose community center.
