Update: Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, a powerful hard-line conservative embroiled in a sexual abuse scandal from his days as a college wrestling coach, announced on Thursday that he will run to succeed Paul D. Ryan as House speaker.
Washington, DC July 25, 2018
Today a group of pro-Trump ultra-conservative members of Congress filed a resolution for articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference into the 2016 Presidential campaign.
The resolution crafted by Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., and Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and nine others is not a “privileged resolution,” which would force the Republican leadership to consider the issue within two legislative days.
Meadows and Jordan could still force the issue on Thursday before lawmakers head home for the House’s month-long August recess. Such a move would mean leaders would have to bring a vote to table the measure or cancel or delay the recess.
The impeachment resolution joins with the antics of House Intelligence
Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) to protect Trump and decapitate the FBI and the Russia investigation.
These Republicans are skirting the line between Congressional oversight and obstruction of justice.
