Mesquite, NV. In this video, Mayor Al Litman of Mesquite, NV reminds his constituents of the Mayor’s limitations. Different cities and counties have various forms of Mayors from a ceremonial mayor to an influential program entrepreneur.

In 2017, then city council members, David Ballweg, Rich Green, George Rapson, Geno Withelder, and Brian Wursten, pushed for a city charter that limited the role of the Mayor to primarily ceremonial.

In that role, the Mayor represents the City Government for all ceremonial purposes a provides an annual address to the City Council.

However, he does have the power to declare emergencies as necessary to “protect the health, welfare, and safety of the City.
