Nevada Legislature Will Go Into Special Session on July 8

Nevada Legislature, redistricting

Moments ago, Governor Steve Sisolak (D) announced he will call the Nevada Legislature into a special session next Wednesday to address the estimated $1.27 billion budget deficit for the fiscal year that begins today. In a prepared statement, Sisolak said, “I look forward to joining Nevada’s lawmakers to undertake this difficult budget process and finalize necessary reductions while prioritizing the resources necessary to protect the health and safety of Nevada’s residents.”

Unless and until the federal government provides additional aid (such as the roughly $900 billion allocated for state and local governments under the HEROES Act), state lawmakers will likely pass additional budget cuts on top of what Sisolak and the Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee had already agreed to for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

Stay tuned here at Nevada Today for more details on this developing story, including coverage of the special session when it begins next Wednesday.
