Reno, Aug. 17, 2018 — This weekend, Assemblyman Nelson Araujo kicked off his “Nevada Means Business” Listening Tour as part of his campaign for Secretary of State. On Friday, Araujo began the tour by meeting with Sean Cary, owner of Rounds Bakery, which serves the northern Nevada community and employs more than 80 people. On Saturday, Araujo visited with Dave Asher, owner of the Buy Nevada First Gift Shop in the Nevada Marketplace in the Reno Town Mall, touring the store and discussing the opportunity and potential to grow local economies by supporting Nevada businesses.
“Nelson Araujo clearly understands the issues facing Nevada businesses,” said Sean Cary, owner of Rounds Bakey in Reno. “Small and mid-sized business owners are often burdened by their interactions with the state government, and I commend Nelson’s efforts to reach out and listen to what these challenges are. By supporting local businesses we can employ more of our community members right here in our state, and Nelson understands the dedication and effort needed by elected officials to help businesses like Rounds Bakery be able to operate and succeed.”
After the revelation of the threats of scam and fraud within the Nevada Secretary of State’s business portal, Nelson has made a point of going directly to those vulnerable businesses to discuss his plans and listen to their feedback and concerns.
“I appreciate the value that Nelson puts on Nevada-based, locally-owned businesses,” said Dave Asher, owner of Buy Nevada First Gift Shop in the Nevada Marketplace. “As Nevadans we can use each of our purchasing power to support the many mom-and-pop businesses across the state. A strong local economy requires cooperation between the state and the business community and I applaud Nelson’s proactive efforts to hear directly from those businesses about what they need.”
“All across Nevada, entrepreneurs are creating jobs, growing our economy, and serving our communities. Their hard work and innovation is the fuel that drives our state,” said Araujo. “But our current Secretary of State has left these businesses vulnerable to online scams and fraud by failing to protect the sensitive information these businesses provide to the government. All Nevada businesses, from coffee shops to healthcare specialists, need to know that they are safe from scams and fraud. As Secretary of State I intend to modernize the way Nevada does business and I will work to ensure that these businesses have the ability to thrive.”
Nelson Araujo is a proud Nevada native, current Assemblyman and candidate for Nevada Secretary of State. Elected twice to the Nevada State Assembly, Nelson served as Assistant Majority Leader in the most recent legislative session. Nelson is running for Secretary of State to modernize the way Nevada does business and to protect the fundamental rights of all eligible voters.
