Weekend Lounge: Last Waves of 2018

So these have been the winter holidays, and what have we done? Actually, we’ve done quite a lot! And as we prepare to do even more in the new year that’s rapidly approaching, I was hoping we could kick back one more time and enjoy the great views outside.

This weekend, we’re visiting my original homeland one more time to take in the scenery of two legendary expanses of California coastline.

Carlsbad, Saturday

Last weekend, we stopped in Carlsbad. It’s about 35 miles north of all the excitement of Downtown San Diego, yet it has its own unique vibe, one that combines refinement and pure relaxation.

Carlsbad and the rest of San Diego’s North County Coast may be fairly close to the big cities, yet they feel so far away with their laid-back attitude and their perennial warm welcome. With the exception of the Carlsbad sign (which hangs in the middle of the village), all other photos here were taken at Carlsbad State Beach, which is also known by locals as Tamarack Beach.

Laguna Beach, Monday

What, you thought I would do another California coastal photo journal and not include perhaps the best, most beautiful beach on earth? Well, you thought wrong!

On Christmas Eve, we really got into the holiday spirit by visiting world-famous Laguna Beach in South Orange County. Above are a couple scenes from the bluff at Heisler Park, and below are shots from Anita Street Beach and Thalia Street Beach (a great surf spot!) in the heart of the village (just south of Downtown Laguna).

I hope you enjoyed our final “Weekend Lounge” photo journal of 2018. Amidst all the challenges we’ve confronted this year, it’s been great to remind you (and for that matter, myself) of all that’s wonderful in our world. I hope you have a very happy new year, and I can’t wait for us to begin sharing more amazing stories with you in 2019.
