Clean Air Petition Filed In Mesquite NV

Editors note: If approved the question will be on the General Election ballot on November 6, 2018.

June 21, 2018

Mesquite Citizens’ Initiative for Clean Indoor Air Petition Committee, P.O. Box 1771  Mesquite, NV 89024, City of Mesquite, Tracy Beck, City Clerk, 10 E. Mesquite Blvd. Mesquite, NV 89027

Dear Ms. Beck:

We are submitting 2,271 signatures of Mesquite residents evidencing their support for the City of Mesquite Clean Indoor Air Ordinance of 2018. Each declared they were registered to vote in Mesquite. Please note we are well within the statutory deadline for submission of signatures, and the number of signatures we are submitting is almost twice the number required by the state.

We hereby inform you that there is a legal challenge to the legitimacy of the petition

(Case No. A-18-775930-C, Dept. No. XXIX), with a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) hearing scheduled for June 26, It is possible that the Court may issue an Order further defining the roles of the parties, including the status of any signatures hereby submitted. These signatures are submitted with the understanding that all rights and responsibilities inherent in the above listed lawsuit are fully reserved.

Accompanying this letter, is a table of the petition pages (1-650) with their corresponding numbers of seemingly valid signatures.  Committee members have flagged invalid signatures, to the best of their ability, and those signatures are not included in sub totals or the grand total.

Each document, containing 50 potential signatures, includes a copy of the proposed ordinance, as required on the Nevada Secretary of State website.  The last page of the document, also as per the SOS website instructions, is the affidavit of the person who circulated the document.

Documents with less than 50 signatures contain all of the numbered pages of that document, and may include pages without signatures.  Documents which were prepared, but not used (contain no signatures), are submitted to complete the numerical sequence. They are noted on the accompanying table as “blank,” and are bound by black clips.

Thank you for your kind attention.
